You know the scenario. You’re about to pack for your long awaited holiday and suddenly the urge to buy a whole new wardrobe washes over you. But that’s where this post comes in. Chances are you are sorted when it comes to your holiday wardrobe already, so I’ve detailed 10 must-have holiday items from *NET-A-PORTER that can either act as a bit of a packing guide for you, or for a little point in the right direction if there are a few things you might need to update. I’ve handpicked these items because not only are they suitcase essentials that you’ll reach for time and time again whilst you’re away, they are also things that can be easily incorporated into your general rotation at home; cementing themselves as true staples in your summer wardrobe…
There is a reason you’re seeing this swimsuit everywhere this summer, it’s fab. The thick seersucker material gives a nice amount of control and the fit is flattering and comfortable (it somehow managed to fit me all the way during pregnancy!). I love the range of colours and cuts available, but I always come back to the OG. The low-rise back makes it a great option for wearing on non-beach occasions as a bodysuit too.
Totême do gorgeous summer dresses – you really can’t go wrong with them. The racer back makes it kinda casual, but the close-fit and yellow shade means it’s a stand out piece too. Of course the overall cut lends itself to holiday wear, but it would be great on a sunny evening in the summer with some flip-flops and a rope clutch bag to dress it up a little.
I finally clicked purchase on this after spending months hovering over the checkout button. I love me a matching set and the oversized fit and colour of this just had me sold. Of course this is going to look great on holiday and specially if you’re finding yourself walking to the local beach or town, but I feel like I’d wear this most on working from home days when I want to be comfy, but have a few errands to run too. It would great with the sandals I’ve picked out below.
I’ve tried a fair amount shorts in my time and these are by far my favourite. The distressed finish gives them a vintage feel and the light denim means that you can actually wear them in the heat without getting too hot. I’d recommend sizing up a size or two to get a slightly oversized fit, which is always my top tip when it comes to denim shorts. I wear them to the beach with my swimsuit underneath and shirt over the top, or just for a summer day out with a boxy shirt and chunky sandals.
How fun is this? Sometimes a jazzy shirt is just what makes a capsule wardrobe. I’m always partial to a bit of a neutral-toned pattern and love a boxy-fit short-sleeve shirt. My most worn combination would definitely be this with, denim shorts and some black flip-flops for a casual look, but you could easily dress it up at home with some wide-leg leather trousers and heels.
You know I love my neutrals, but every now and again you have to inject a little something something, and this skirt is exactly that. A gold-toned olive, this would look amazing paired with any other neutral in your wardrobe and is something that could work down the beach as well as the office. Go for a fitted knit and a ballet sandal to make it workwear appropriate, or throw it on with a crew neck t-shirt and a chunky sandal for a more summery look.
As much as I love my denim, even I understand that a true summer trouser has to be some kind of linen blend. I went for these as the elasticated waistband just sung to me, and you just have so many options for what to wear with it. On an evening out? Go for a swimsuit as a bodysuit underneath. Wearing it to run weekend errands in? Try a tank top, with a linen shirt knotted over the top. Gorgeous on holiday, but practical for U.K shores too.
Imagine this tucked into some denim shorts, with some flip-flops on and a cocktail in hand? Wonderful. I feel like the beauty of a top like this is that you could really go to town and dress it up – I’m thinking a satin black midi skirt and some seriously strappy heels – or you could wear it as I mentioned and give it a more relaxed vibe. Layer on an oversized linen shirt if it’s a little chilly.
Every single summer I come back to this bag. It’s just the right size. Some totes are absolutely massive and just crying out for a beach day, but this is a little more petite, so I feel like it would work better as an ‘at-home’ bag too, as well as on holiday. You’d just be able to get your beach supplies in there as well as you’d be able to get a laptop in for the office too.
These are brilliant as they combine like my three favourite pairs of sandals into one. A chunky sandal, with a little bit of a platform and a million straps? They are perfect. A flat sandal is a must for any summer holiday, but the detail on these make them a little dressy too, so good to wear in the evenings as well as for a wander around the local town.
